Old Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Vanilla Sauce Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding is an ultimate comfort dish, reminiscent of simpler times. This classic recipe, often prepared by grandmas on clear fall evenings, fills the kitchen with the warm aroma of vanilla and cinnamon. Stale bread transforms into soft, pillowy squares, absorbing a sweet, spiced custard. The addition of crunchy almond slivers and juicy golden raisins creates a delightful textural contrast. Fresh from the oven, the pudding is perfectly set on the outside and velvety inside. Drizzled with a rich cream sauce, it’s a basic yet delectable treat.

To make this bread pudding, you will need:

Ingredients:

Bread Pudding:
3 cups whole milk
1 ½ cups white sugar
¼ cup melted butter
3 beaten eggs
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
10 slices toasted farmhouse-style bread, cubed
1 cup raisins
Vanilla Sauce:
1 ¼ cups whole milk
½ cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Pinch of ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 2-quart baking dish.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, melted butter, eggs, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the bread pudding. Stir in bread cubes and raisins gently, then spoon the mixture into the prepared dish.
Bake for 50-55 minutes until browned and set in the middle, covering with foil after 30 minutes to avoid excessive browning. Let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
For the vanilla sauce, whisk milk, brown sugar, butter, egg, flour, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan until smooth. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens (10-12 minutes).
Stir in vanilla extract.Pour the sauce over the warm bread pudding or serve it on the side.

Enjoy this timeless dish for a taste of nostalgic comfort!
