Family of 5 swap house life to live in an RV full time so they can be together as a family

It’s been three years since they made the decision and they don’t regret it!

Jaren and Molly Garcia used to live in a traditional three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Joshua, Texas but they rarely got to spend time with each other.
You see, Jaren worked in sales and traveled for work all the time. He would come home for a few days and then be gone for weeks and even months.

“We were trying to figure out how we were going to live our lives separately. Like, I was at home with the kids and then he was gone out of state,” Molly shared. “And I was like, ‘Well, I don’t really care for being at home by myself anymore. I’d rather be with you even if it’s in an RV.’ And we ended up doing that.”

So on November 2018, they decided they were going to sell their house and around 98% of their possessions.
And in January 2019, they bought their very first RV, a 2019 Coachmen Chaparral 373 MBRB. And in March 2019, they placed their house on the market and went on the road with their three children, Lillie, Jaxton, and Willow, who are now 13, 9, and 5 years old, respectively.

Because they were on the road all the time, Molly has taken charge of home-schooling the three children. Plus she is the one who creates content for the blog, YouTube channel, and social media platforms.

Jaren has switched jobs and is now an independent insurance adjuster and the driver of their 44-foot motorhome.
They have since changed homes and now live in a 2020 Heritage Glen Wildwood 378FL 5th wheel that’s pulled by a 2020 Ford F-350 Dually. These babies have taken them to 25 US states and they’ve visited so many national parks, museums, zoos, and libraries. Their current favorites are the national parks in Utah and Montana.

Sometimes, they ask their kids if they want to go back to house living and they get a resounding, “No!” They love their new life, especially since they adjusted quickly to it. Molly and Jaren heard what they were saying and they make sure that the three children have memorable experiences while traveling and living all over the country.

One of the things the Garcias love about RV living is having lower monthly expenses.
When they used to live in a house, they used to spend at least $3,000 per month on expenses. Now, Molly estimates they spend around $1,000 per month.

They would stay at an RV park, which cost around $650/month. Electricity and water would cost them around $130. And since they cooked their meals, they’ve lowered their food budget as well.

But they still need to be careful because expenses can still get out of control. Since fuel prices have gone up, they have to be mindful of their possessions.

“When you get into the RV life, if you bring a lot of weight into your RV, it’ll weigh it down,” Molly explained. “You’ll spend more money on gas, you might break things in your RV because there’s so much weight in there. So, actually going through everything, and, like, really going through everything, it’s a process.”

Just like with home living, RV living has its good points and bad points. It’s really up to you how you’re going to balance it.
