Discovering that their toddler accidentally shredded over $1,000 was an unusual and distressing situation for Ben and Jackee in 2018. The money, earmarked for Ben’s payments, was kept in an envelope that went missing, prompting understandable concern from the parents.

After an exhaustive search, Jackee had the idea to check an area they hadn’t explored yet.

“I’m digging through the trash, and she hollers and says, ‘I found it,’” Ben recounted to KSL. “She’s holding the shredder and she says, ‘I think the money is in here.’”

Indeed, their 2-year-old son Leo, fond of the shredder and accustomed to using it, had inadvertently played with the envelope. Jackee clarified, “Leo helps me shred junk mail and just things with our name on it or important documents we want to get rid of.”

During a moment when his parents were unaware, Leo had fed the envelope through the shredder.

“For like five minutes, we just shuffled through it, not talking,” Jackee shared. “We didn’t know what to do, and then I broke the silence and I’m like, ‘Well, this will make a great wedding story one day.’”
