Months before the wedding, following her engagement, Abby gathered her family for a discussion about her upcoming nuptials. During this meeting, a special plan was hatched for one particular person – Abby’s 92-year-old grandmother, Georgiana Arlt.
Georgiana, who had never been part of a wedding party before, received the exciting news with sheer delight. Abby shared with PEOPLE how she informed her cherished family member of the unconventional plan. Abby’s friend Dustin Mershon recalled the moment, saying, “Everyone screamed but she shrieked at the top of her lungs. She kept on saying over and over that she had never been in a wedding before besides for her own. She was so excited.”
The bride had decided that Georgiana would play the role of the flower girl, a surprising choice given that this role typically goes to younger family members.
On the much-anticipated wedding day, even Abby couldn’t contain her excitement at the sight of Georgiana in her pale blue suit, adorned with flowers, making a surprising entrance with her walker. Abby admitted, “I was hiding in the clubhouse, and I told my girlfriend that I had to look out the window even though people might see me. I said I didn’t care and that I had to see this special moment.”
