Arizona teen walks into Montana police station after vanishing nearly 4 years ago

Alicia Navarro, an Arizona teen who went missing nearly four years ago, turned up at a Montana police station, officials said Wednesday.

Navarro, who is now 18, reported to a Montana police station in a small town located 40 miles south of the Canadian border.

“Alicia Navarro has been located. She is by all accounts, safe. She is by all accounts healthy, and she is by all accounts happy,” said Jose Miguel Santiago with the Glendale Police Department.

The teen, who was identified as autistic at the time, disappeared from her home in Glendale, Arizona in the early morning hours of September 15, 2019. She left her parents a note saying she was leaving, but would return.

Her disappearance sparked a massive search that involved local police as well as the FBI and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to police thousands of tips were received, but none led to the teen.

The first time anyone heard from Navarro was this week when she showed up at the Montana police station and identified herself as Alicia Navarro.

“She basically asked for help to clear her off of a missing juvenile list,” Jose Santiago, a spokesman for Glendale police, said during a press conference. “She is not in any kind of trouble. She is not facing any kind of charges.”

“This case is far from being closed,” police said. “We are continuing to investigate her whereabouts for the last four years and will do so alongside our federal partners.”

Navarro was “very apologetic” and hoped she could have a relationship with her mother after the stress of the last four years.

“I want to give glory to God for answering prayers and for this miracle,” her mother said in a video posted on Facebook.

“For everyone who has missing loved ones, I want you to use this case as an example,” she said. “Miracles do exist. Never lose hope and always fight.”
