Jake and Nora struggled to conceive. From the moment they got together, they always dreamed of becoming parents, and one day, after plenty of struggles and tries, their wish finally came true.<\/p>\n

Nora got pregnant. They were expecting a girl, and as days went by, they couldn\u2019t wait to finally meet their precious bundle of joy.<\/p>\n

The day their baby girl was welcomed into the world, Jake and Nora were overjoyed.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, it\u2019s a baby girl!\u201d the nurse said with a smile on her face.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan I see her?\u201d Nora inquired anxiously as the nurses seemed to be taking a while to finish cleaning the baby.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, darling. Thank you so much for this miracle,\u201d Jake told his loving wife. \u201cWe did this together, honey. I wouldn\u2019t have gotten through that difficult pregnancy without your help,\u201d Nora replied.<\/p>\n

As they couldn\u2019t stop looking at their miracle baby which came into their lives after several miscarriages, the new parents started talking about the baby\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know we thought of several names already, but I don\u2019t know if any of them fit anymore,\u201d Nora began, as she placed her lips on the baby\u2019s head. \u201cHow about Hope?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHope?\u201d Jake said in wonder. \u201cI think that\u2019s the best name for her. Hello, Hope, my darling baby girl. We\u2019re going to love you so much.\u201d
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

The nurses took Hope so that Nora could take some rest, and after some time they returned together with the doctor looking scared and pale. Their facial expression spoke of a trouble.
\n\u201cI\u2019m so sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. But your baby went into an unexpected cardiac arrest. We did everything we could, but despite our best efforts, we couldn\u2019t revive her. I\u2019m afraid she\u2019s gone,\u201d the neonatal doctor revealed.
\nHearing these words, Jake and Nora\u2019s world shattered into a million pieces. They had just held their sweet baby, and now, all of a sudden, she was gone.
\n\u201cNO! That\u2019s not possible! Bring the doctor back! He\u2019s lying!\u201d Nora wailed.
\nBut there was nothing they could do. Left hopeless and heartbroken, Jake and Nora left the hospital the following day without Hope.<\/p>\n

Unable to endure the pain of losing her child, Nora died two years later, leaving Jake behind.

Years passed by, and Jake still couldn\u2019t overcome the grief which came with the loss of the two people he loved the most.
\nNo week passed by without him visiting Nora\u2019s and Hope\u2019s graves.
\nOn the twentieth anniversary of his daughter\u2019s passing, Jake brought flowers to his girls\u2019 graves.
\nRegrettably, neither he nor Nora had much family. That\u2019s why building a new family held such significance. Yet now, it was just him. Alone in the world. At times, he couldn\u2019t fathom why he hadn\u2019t succumbed to sorrow like his wife did two years after Hope\u2019s death.
\nAs he contemplated life, Jake hear someone whispering \u201cHello!\u201d
\nHe turned around and saw what felt like a familiar face. Surprised, he whispered, \u201cNora?\u201d believing he had gone insane.
\n\u201cI\u2019m not Nora. My name is Nicole, and I wanted to talk to you,\u201d the young woman could be heard saying.
\n\u201cWhat do you need, young lady?\u201d Jake asked, still stunned by the resemblance of that woman and his late wife.
\n\u201cI believe you are my father. Dad, I\u2019ve finally found you,\u201d the young woman said.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Jake got even more confused. How was that even possible. His only daughter died mere hours after she was born.
\nIt\u2019s the truth,\u201d Nicole continued. \u201cI\u2019m your daughter. Well, at least, that\u2019s my theory.\u201d
\n\u201cI don\u2019t understand. I don\u2019t know you, young lady, and you don\u2019t know me or my family. But my daughter died after childbirth all those years ago. Please, don\u2019t play around with something that serious,\u201d Jake muttered, almost getting angry.
\n\u201cI would never joke about something like that. I swear. My parents are not my biological parents, but I look exactly like the picture on that woman\u2019s grave. Didn\u2019t you call me Nora? Isn\u2019t that her?\u201d Nicole said as she pointed to the photo on Nora\u2019s tombstone
\n\u201cMaybe you\u2019re a distant relative or something,\u201d Jake hedged, thinking that the woman had to be a long-lost cousin or anyone else besides his dead daughter.
\n\u201cI don\u2019t think so. Look, I\u2019m 20 years old, and I was born at the George Washington University Hospital. I already investigated thanks to my friend who is a nurse there. There were only two girls born from two couples that day. One couple was my parents, and the other was you. Jake and Nora Rogers, correct?\u201d she checked.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand what you\u2019re saying. You think you were switched at birth?\u201d Jake asked, perplexed by the young woman\u2019s words. \u201cThat can\u2019t be true.\u201d
\n\u201cI\u2019m 98% sure of it. I am almost sure that my parents\u2019 real daughter was born sick, and they switched us. I\u2019m even more certain of it now that I see you because I may look like the woman in the picture, but my eyes are clearly yours,\u201d Nicole said.
\n\u201cIsn\u2019t that a crime? No doctor would do that,\u201d Jake said in utter confusion.
\n\u201cThere\u2019s an open police investigation into the matter now. And my parents might even go to jail for it. So much has happened since I discovered I wasn\u2019t their biological daughter. It\u2019s been so complicated, and it would be hard to explain. But I wanted to meet you and see if you wanted to take a DNA test to confirm what I suspect,\u201d Nicole asked.
\nJake agreed because he too needed answers.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Jake shared the story of losing their daughter with Nicole.
\n\u201cMy wife died of sheer grief two years later. She couldn\u2019t deal with the loss,\u201d Jake continued. \u201cAnd now you\u2019re telling me that 20 years of pain have been for nothing? You\u2019re Hope?\u201d
\n\u201cYes. I know it\u2019s hard because finding out my parents were possibly involved in the theft of a child has been such a shock, but I have to know the truth.\u201d
\nRealizing Nicole was convinced she was his daughter, Jake agreed to do the DNA test. Deep down, he hoped this girl was indeed his daughter.
\nWhen the test results finally came out, they showed Nicole was indeed Jake\u2019s daughter.
\nThey hugged and cried tears of joy and then they both headed to the detective who was in charge of investigating the possible baby swap that took place 20 years ago.

\nThe exact number of exchanged babies remained unknown, and Jake found solace in the fact that they could assist the officers, as this was an awful situation.
\nEventually, Nicole\u2019s parents,those who raised her, were arrested for bribing the hospital staff and stealing her from her biological parents.
\nJake and Nicole were happy they found each other, but their hearts ached for Nora, who died believing her daughter was dead.
