When broken down, the true meaning of \u2018WC\u2019 actually makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n

People have quickly taken to the comments to discuss this apparent revelation \u2013 despite it having been around since the 1870s in England.<\/p>\n

The origin of the name is all based on toilet history.<\/p>\n

Once indoor plumbing became more common for households, many people turned their clothing closets into small rooms with a toilet inside.<\/p>\n

These were some of the only places in the home with running water inside.<\/p>\n

Many people now refer to the room with the toilet as a bathroom.<\/p>\n

However, a bathroom typically used to be a room that had a bath, and this would be completely separate from the toilet.<\/p>\n

In a now-deleted TikTok, @itsnathannyc explains: \u201cBefore indoor plumbing, we actually had a room for the bathtub, a bathroom. But the spout was outside. You had to carry water in with a bucket, heat it up, pour it in the tub.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndoor plumbing comes along and there is already a room with a bath, the bathroom, so where do you put the toilet? Just put it in a closet, it\u2019s the easiest place to put a toilet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to being one of the only places in the home with running water inside, they later became known as water closets.<\/p>\n
