The Queen Consort spoke about a subject that is important to her heart when visiting the recently opened Royal Osteoporosis Society offices.<\/p>\n

In appreciation of the Royal Osteoporosis Society\u2019s work, the Queen attended a reception with invited guests. Charity is very important to her because her mother, who was 71 when she died of the illness in 1994, is.<\/p>\n

In 1986, the illness claimed Camilla\u2019s grandma.

The Queen Consort Camilla spoke about her mother\u2019s struggle with osteoporosis in a 2021 interview with Gloria Hunniford for the BBC to mark World Osteoporosis Day.<\/p>\n

She recalled a friend coming into the building to give her a hug and accidentally breaking one of her ribs. So horrible was it, really.<\/p>\n

Camilla described her late mother, Rosalind Shand\u2019s alleged age-related flaws. \u201cI believe my mother visited almost everyone you could think of, and they all apologized for her age by saying, \u2018Sorry, you\u2019re old.\u2019\u201d We just watched her shrivel up in front of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Camilla and her family were also affected by the disease. \u201cIt was terrible,\u201d she said. \u201cBecause we were unaware of the situation, we wondered at one point, \u2018Well, is she making a big deal out of all of this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes when she moved, or you touched her, she genuinely screamed,\u201d Camilla continued, indicating how bad her mother\u2019s health was.<\/p>\n

Since then, Camilla has worked hard to spread knowledge about the condition and is now an ambassador for the Royal Osteoporosis Society.<\/p>\n

She thinks that education is important. \u201cI believe we all believe we are immortal when we are young, but I would prefer to see more young people educated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to see more young people understand it rather than simply thinking, \u2018Poor old bats, that\u2019s what will happen to us when we get old,\u2019 you know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gloria asked Camilla if she was worried about her family\u2019s future. \u201cI believe my daughter\u2019s generation is receptive,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, you know, they\u2019re turning into teenagers. I\u2019d show photos of my mother before and after she was diagnosed with osteoporosis.
