Former Yankees star Brett Gardner has announced the heartbreaking death of his 14-year-old son who died after suddenly falling ill while on vacation.

In a devastating statement released on Sunday (March 23), Brett and his wife Jessica revealed that their son Miller had fallen ill \u201calong with several other family members\u201d during the trip.<\/p>\n

With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,\u201d the family said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile.
\n\u201cHe loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.”

\nThe statement continued: \u201cWe are so thankful to all who have reached out to offer support and encouragement during this difficult time and we are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us navigate this unimaginable loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur prayers go out to Miller\u2019s teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief.

Gardner, 41, spent all 14 of his MLB seasons with the Yankees from 2008 to 2021, helping the team clinch a World Series title in 2009.<\/p>\n

He was known not just for his performance on the field, but for his deep bond with the organization and his teammates \u2014 including fan-favorite Aaron Judge.

His son, Miller, had recently made waves playing high school football in South Carolina, even scoring a touchdown while wearing No. 11 \u2014 the same number Brett wore throughout his career in pinstripes.<\/p>\n

Following the tragic news, the Yankees organization paid tribute to the Gardner family with an emotional statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of the passing of Miller Gardner,\u201d the team said.
\nWords feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss. It wasn\u2019t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years \u2014 so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their community of family and friends in mourning the loss of Miller, who had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.<\/p>\n
