The screams came from the yard where she had been playing. Worried something was wrong, Owen ran to the window and was shocked to see someone trying to drag his 8-year-old sister toward the woods near their home.<\/p>\n<p>Realizing he had to act quickly, Owen grabbed the $3 slingshot his mom had bought him and found the closest things to use as ammo\u2014a marble and a rock. Since he had practiced shooting at old orange cans, he was confident he could hit the kidnapper.<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly, Owen hit the kidnapper twice\u2014once between the eyes and once on the chest. \u201cHe was swearing and yelling,\u201d Owen told The Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p>The kidnapper ran off, leaving Owen\u2019s sister unharmed. Though she was shaken by the incident, she was safe, all thanks to her brave and quick-thinking brother.<\/p>\n<p>When they got home, the siblings called their mother, who had been helping a relative during the incident. As soon as she heard what happened, she rushed home and contacted the police.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan State Police quickly found the suspected kidnapper. Though they didn\u2019t release his name, they said he was a 17-year-old who would be charged as an adult.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8326-300x200.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18078\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8326-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8326.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nLt. John Grimshaw praised Owen, saying, \u201cHe really is the one that\u2026 I believe saved his sister\u2019s life or kept something very bad from happening to her.\u201d He called Owen\u2019s actions \u201cextraordinary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grimshaw explained that the kidnapper \u201ccame from behind her, grabbed her like you see in the movies \u2014 hand over her mouth, arm around her waist \u2014 and tried to pull her into the woods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Owen\u2019s mom, Maggie Burns, didn\u2019t believe his story about hitting the kidnapper in the eyes and chest, but the police confirmed it was true.<\/p>\n<p>According to a police press release, \u201c[The suspect] had clear signs of injuries that matched the ones he would have gotten from the slingshot hits to his head and chest.\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8327-300x200.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18079\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8327-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/ourtimenew.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_8327.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n\u201cYou said I always lie!\u201d Owen told his mother.<br \/>\n\u201cI just couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d she answered. \u201cIt didn\u2019t seem real until there was proof. It sounds like something you\u2019d see in the movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom,\u201d the teenager replied, \u201cthings from the movies can really happen in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Owen is truly a hero. His bravery in protecting his little sister has been praised by everyone in the community.
