\nThe teenager who confessed to high school student Austin Metcalf during a scuffle at a track meet told police it was in self defense. \u201cI\u2019m not alleged, I did it,\u201d said the 17-year-old, who \u2013 contrary to witness testimonials \u2013 insists he was \u201cprotecting\u201d himself when he buried a knife into the heart of a fellow athlete.<\/p>\n
On April 2, about 10 a.m., Hunter Metcalf was with his twin brother Austin Metcalf, a star athlete who was competing in discus throw and shot-put events at a track meet, held at the David Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.<\/p>\n
We did everything together. You name anything in the world, it\u2019s always us two. We were always basically one person,\u201d Hunter said of him and Austin, who was born four minutes before his twin brother.<\/p>\n
The 17-year-olds \u2013 both juniors at Memorial High School outside Dallas \u2013 were in the school\u2019s tent at the championship competition when a student \u2013 identified as Karmelo Anthony \u2013 from another school decided to enter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis kid was sitting under out tent at track, we asked him to move. He started getting aggressive and talking reckless and my brother stepped in and said, \u2018you need to move,\u2019\u201d Hunter told ABC affiliate WFAA in a heartbreaking interview. \u201cAnd he\u2019s like, \u2018Make me move.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018I tried to help him\u2019
\nThen Karmelo allegedly reached into his backpack and pulled out a knife, stabbing the twin once in the chest before running away.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tried to whip around as fast as I could. I didn\u2019t see the stab\u2026but then I looked at my brother\u2026 and I\u2019m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him,\u201d a teary-eyed Hunter said, adding that tried to save his brother\u2019s life by stopping the blood.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tried to help him.\u201d<\/p>\n
He held his twin until first responders arrived and attempted resuscitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey yanked me off him,\u201d Hunter said of not wanting to let go of his brother.

\nSpeaking with NBC of the tragic incident, the twins father, Jeff Metcalf, lamented, \u201cThey were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite efforts made by emergency officials, Austin \u201cdied in his brother\u2019s arms,\u201d Metcalf said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw him for his last moments\u2026he knew how much I loved him. I don\u2019t know why someone would do that to someone just over that little argument,\u201d Hunter shared, adding he \u201chad never met [Karmelo]\u201d until the \u201c30 second\u201d \u201caltercation,\u201d that ended in the death of his brother.<\/p>\n
\u2018I did it\u2019
\nAccording to witnesses, Karmelo \u2013 a 17-year-old student athlete from Centennial High School \u2013 told Austin, \u201ctouch me and see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before Karmelo reached into his backpack and pulled out a \u201cblack knife,\u201d Austin \u201creportedly grabbed [Karmelo] and told him to move,\u201d the witness said. Then he allegedly stabbed Austin once in the chest before running away, tossing the weapon that was later found in the bleachers.<\/p>\n
At that point, Austin was seen grabbing his chest, his brother holding him tightly.<\/p>\n
ABC writes that police listed \u201cmore than 30 witnesses who saw the stabbing including students and coaches.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018Protecting myself\u2019
\nAfter police arrived, ABC reports the affidavit states that Karmelo told police \u201cI was protecting myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
And, as he was escorted off the track, the teen then claimed that Austin had \u201cput his hands on [him],\u201d later asking if his actions could be considered self-defense.<\/p>\n
He then clarified, \u201cI\u2019m not alleged, I did it,\u201d and when Karmelo was \u201ccrying hysterically\u201d in the back seat of the cruiser, the officer noted there was fresh blood on the teen\u2019s \u201cleft middle finger.\u201d

\nAppearing to show some remorse, the suspect asked if Austin was \u201cgoing to be OK,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n
Buried a dagger
\nMeanwhile, Karmelo\u2019s family members are rallying for support, suggesting the teenager was a victim of bullies.<\/p>\n
\u201cA 4.0 student. A football team captain. A leader, a protector, a role model,\u201d writes Kevin Hayes on a viral Facebook post. \u201cHe works hard, stays out of trouble, and carries himself with dignity. Yet, here he is \u2013 behind bars. Not because he was looking for trouble. Not because he was the aggressor. But because he refused to be a victim.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey jumped him. Outnumbered, attacked \u2013 he fought for his life. And now, instead of calling it what it is \u2013 self-defense \u2013 the system is trying to make him the villain. The real bully is gone, but Karmelo is the one paying the price,\u201d Hayes writes in the post that\u2019s dividing the online community.<\/p>\n
\u201cDude killed someone\u2026 I mean it\u2019s good that he was doing what he was supposed to as a young man earlier on but [we\u2019re passed] that and a young man is dead. It\u2019s a shame and [an] embarrassment at the stupidity I see every day,\u201d shares one user in the comments.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy did he have a weapon in the first place? If he feared his safety from bullies, did he notify school or cops at the game, parents? Nobody needed to die!\u201d a second shares.<\/p>\n
A third offers, \u201cYou don\u2019t just bury a dagger into someone\u2019s chest in broad daylight in front of hundreds and be a good person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Arguing that Karmelo acted in self defense, another netizen writes, \u201cWe think he was defending himself and someone died in the mist,\u201d while a second adds, \u201cWe hope Karmelo knows he has a whole tribe of people standing 10 toes behind him!\u201d<\/p>\n
Karmelo Anthony, of Frisco, Texas, \u201cis charged with murder, a 1st Degree Felony.\u201d The bond amount has been set to $1,000,000.<\/p>\n
