Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye Smith (now Brosnan) have been happily married for decades. The couple met back in 1994, but just years earlier, the former 007 actor had suffered immense tragedy when his first wife died of cancer. <\/p>\n

Brosnan and his wife found each other, and they are still deeply in love. The couple have two children together, and it seems like nothing \u2013 not even work \u2013 can keep them apart. <\/p>\n

\nWhile they undoubtedly have had their fair share of ups and downs, Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye know what a happy marriage is all about. Now, the actor shares news on what it\u2019s really like and why it\u2019s been a spiritual journey, too. <\/p>\n

When you think of a classy James Bond, it\u2019s safe to say that the name Pierce Brosnan comes to mind. The 007 star is known for his many memorable acting performances, and not to be forgotten, his fantastic and lovable persona.<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan \u2013 early life
\nMeanwhile, Pierce Brosnan has had a very successful career in the entertainment business; the well-renowned actor has gone through some very tough times throughout his life. It all started when he was an infant, as his father, Thomas, who worked as a carpenter, abandoned him and his mother, May.<\/p>\n

Pierce was left with his grandparents in Ireland when his mother moved to London to look for work when he was only four years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were two lodgers \u2014 workingmen, one in the factory and one in the sawmill,\u201d Pierce Brosnan recalled in an interview with Esquire. \u201cI had a metal bed with a curtain around it\u2026. That was my room and my haven and my space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already back then, he loved films, mostly American Westerns, and dreamed of a future career in the acting industry. It\u2019s sure to say that his dream came true.<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan and his father reunited in 1984 when he was 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a Sunday afternoon with him,\u201d he says. \u201cA story about this and that, had a few pints of Guinness, and we said goodbye,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI would have loved to have known him. He was a good whistler, and he had a good walk\u2026. That\u2019s as much as I know about him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan left for London at 15 and later began studying at drama school. There, he met his first wife, Cassandra Harris.<\/p>\n

Harris, an Australian, had moved to London with her two children, Charlotte and Christopher. The couple fell in love \u2013 and married in 1977. He would also adopt her children as his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want my children to have love in their life when they are young. I want them to know the true meaning of love,\u201d Brosnan once said.<\/p>\n

Tragic death of his first wife, Cassandra Harris
\nCassandra Harris became the first person in their family to ever star in a Bond movie. She starred as the Bond girl in the 1981 film For Your Eyes Only, acting alongside Roger Moore. There, Pierce Brosnan met the producer of the Bond filmography, Albert R. Broccoli, who would later help him get the role of James Bond.<\/p>\n

In 1983, Pierce and Cassandra welcomed their first child together, Sean. But sadly, it didn\u2019t take long before tragedy struck.<\/p>\n

While Pierce Brosnan was in India shooting a film, Cassandra fell ill. Not long after, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Cassandra Harris passed away in 1991, and Pierce was left alone with their three children.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen your partner gets cancer, then life changes. Your timetable and reference for your normal routines and the way you view life, all this changes. Because you\u2019re dealing with death. You\u2019re dealing with the possibility of death and dying,\u201d he said after her death, as quoted by Metro.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it was that way through the chemotherapy, through the first-look operation, the second look, the third look, the fourth look, the fifth look. Cassie was very positive about life,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\nBrosnan said his family \u201ccherished every moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCassie was very positive about life,\u201d he continued. \u201cI mean, she had the most amazing energy and outlook on life. She could read people extremely well. She had, above all, the greatest sense of humor. She had this wonderful laugh, which her children have inherited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan struggled with this tragic loss but continued to be the best father possible. Not long after, the actor would meet the woman he has credited with saving his life.<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan & Keely Shaye Smith \u2013 love story
\nDuring a trip to Mexico in 1994, Brosnan met Keely Shaye Smith. She worked as an actress but later transitioned into journalism and documentary filmmaking.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune in 1995, Keely explained that she worked as a model when she was younger but decided to change course. \u201cI realized at some point I was propagating a beauty myth, so I left modeling and acted for a year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

It did not take long before Pierce and Keely fell in love. Speaking with People in 2001, She explained that she found Pierce Brosnan \u201ccaptivating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[He was] \u201ctall, dark, and handsome \u2014 everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to. He had this mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, \u2018Wow! Wow!’\u201d Keely said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand why women find him sexy, because he is an appealing man. He really likes and appreciates women. \u2026 He\u2019s intelligent, captivating and his real beauty emanates from the soul. And, like a fine wine, he\u2019s aging beautifully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Pierce Brosnan felt the same. The wound and heartbreak about losing Cassandra was, of course, not, and maybe will never be, fully healed. But according to him, Keely \u201csaved him,\u201d calling her his \u201cNorth Star.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a great marriage which sadly had its own ending, and I was lucky enough to find love again. We were meant to find each other. I thank God for her every day,\u201d Brosnan told Closer Magazine in January 2018. \u201cWhen Keely looks at me, I go weak. I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn\u2019t be able to live without.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nPierce had previously admitted that meeting Kelly \u201csaved\u201d him at a time when he was deep into a depression. He would do anything to see her, even when his career took off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWherever I went in the world, I missed her, and I\u2019d send her tickets to come so we could be together. We just seemed to fit,\u201d Brosnan said. \u201cI found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good. \u201c<\/p>\n

A year after the couple met, Pierce Brosnan became James Bond with the entire world as he got the role of 007. He and his then-girlfriend Keely were on a whole different life journey, and in 2001, they tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony in Ballintubber Abbey in Ireland<\/p>\n

Four years earlier, the couple welcomed their first child, Dylan, and in 2001 Paris Brosnan was born.<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan\u2019s daughter Charlotte, whom he adopted when he and Cassandra Harris married, was a bridesmaid at their wedding. Sadly, in 2013, Pierce and his family would go through another tragedy, as Charlotte passed away from ovarian cancer, just like her mother.<\/p>\n

She was survived by her husband and two children.<\/p>\n

\u201cI held the generous, strong, beautiful hand of my first wife Cassie as ovarian cancer took her life much too soon. And just last year, I held the hand of my funny, wonderful daughter Charlotte before she too died from this wretched, inherited disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the seventh year-anniversary of Charlotte\u2019s passing, Pierce Brosnan posted a picture of himself on Instagram at his Hawaii home with a message to his late daughter.<\/p>\n

Pierce Brosnan, his wife Keely, and the rest of their family got through the horrible tragedy together. Today, they are a large family with many grandchildren, and it seems like nothing can get in the way of them being one big, happy family.<\/p>\n

Though, a couple of years ago, Pierce Brosnan was forced to go public, defending his beloved wife for the most absurd reason.<\/p>\n

In 2021, a Facebook post went viral where an evil internet troll commented on how Keely looks now, compared to when she married Brosnan. It ended with countless fat-shaming comments and trolls saying how she wasn\u2019t looking good anymore.<\/p>\n

Pierce wasn\u2019t having any of it and decided to speak out. The Irish actor stated that she is the most beautiful woman in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cFriends offered her surgery to reduce her weight. But I strongly love every curve of her body. She is the most beautiful woman in my eyes. And also because she had our five children,\u201d Brosnan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past, I truly loved her for her person, not only for her beauty, and now I\u2019m loving her even more that she is my children\u2019s mother. And I am very proud of her, and I always seek to be worthy of her love.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the couple loves each other, there are, of course, some things that aren\u2019t perfect.<\/p>\n

\nFor Pierce Brosnan, it is how she is way too good at board games, especially backgammon.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeely and I love backgammon,\u201d the Hollywood star told People. \u201cWe\u2019re very competitive. I taught her how to play, and now she just trashes me. It\u2019s just so annoying. It really, really, really is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Keely doesn\u2019t think her husband should start any do-it-yourself projects at home. \u201cI do have a tool kit. But if Keely sees me with a hammer, she\u2019s very worried. She\u2019s just, \u2018No, no, put that down. Go away,’\u201d Brosnan said, laughing.<\/p>\n

On Instagram, Pierce and Keely often share their love for each other with beautiful words and pictures. They\u2019ve been married for 22 years, but their spark never fades.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with Fox, Pierce Brosnan gives his fans a new update on their marriage \u2013 and what has been the key all these years. \u201cWe like each other a lot. We love each other a lot,\u201d he told Fox News. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve been down the road, and we\u2019ve seen many, many hardships as families do, as we all do.\u201d<\/p>\n
