<\/p>\nThe world lost a true treasure on the day that Robin Williams died.<\/p>\n
A much loved comedian and entertainer almost without equal, Williams died by suicide in 2014 after a wrongful diagnosis of Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s difficult to accept that next year will mark a decade without the Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire star. His passing left a huge hole in the entertainment industry that will never be filled, and there are millions across the world that miss him greatly.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the most heartbreaking element of Williams\u2019 death \u2013 and something that really only came to the public\u2019s attention afterwards \u2013 was the depths of his struggles. Though he put on a brave face for the world and was never anything less than fully committed to making others laugh, he had long been fighting battles with personal demons.<\/p>\n
Indeed, fellow actor Sam Neill has described in his memoir Did I Ever Tell You This? how Williams was the \u201cloneliest man on a lonely planet\u201d \u2026.<\/p>\n

\nAccording to reports, Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has shed some light on his own personal relationship with the late Robin Williams, and it\u2019s enough to break our hearts all over again.<\/p>\n
In his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?, Neill recalled his experience working with Williams on Bicentennial Man (1999), and told how he developed a close friendships with the comedian during filming.<\/p>\n
In the book, the New Zealand actor \u2013 who recently revealed he\u2019s been contending with stage three cancer \u2013 said Williams was the \u201cfunniest\u201d and \u201csaddest\u201d man he had ever met.<\/p>\n

\nIn excerpts of his memoir published by People, Neill wrote: \u201cWe would talk about this and that, sometimes even about the work we were about to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
He described Williams as \u201cirresistibly, outrageously, irrepressibly, gigantically funny.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yet Neill also spoke candidly on the pain he saw beneath his co-star\u2019s comedic facade.<\/p>\n
Neill wrote: \u201cHe had fame, he was rich, people loved him, great kids\u2014the world was his oyster. And yet I felt more sorry for him than I can express.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was the loneliest man on a lonely planet.\u201d

\nWhat\u2019s more, Neill added that Williams was \u201cinconsolably solitary, and deeply depressed\u201d, claiming he could sense a \u201cdark space inside from the minute he flung open the door.\u201d<\/p>\n
That Williams was locked in a fight with powers determined to destroy his life cannot be questioned. In 2014 he was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease, but this would later turn out to be a misdiagnosis \u2013 after his death it was discovered that he in fact had Lewy body dementia.<\/p>\n
Susan Schneider Williams, who married Robin in 2011, said: \u201cNearly every region of his brain was under attack. He experienced himself disintegrating.\u201d<\/p>\n
She described his condition as \u201ca disease for which there is no cure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe devastation on Robin\u2019s brain from Lewy bodies was one of the worst cases medical professionals have ever seen, yet throughout all of this his heart remained strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
