\u201cWhat seems to be the problem?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
The man leaned closer and whispered, \u201cI think I\u2019m invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The receptionist looked at him for a moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou think you\u2019re invisible?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s getting worse.\u201d<\/p>\n
She picked up the phone and called the doctor.<\/p>\n
\u201cDoctor, there\u2019s a man here who says he\u2019s invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n
From the other room, the doctor shouted, \u201cTell him I can\u2019t see him right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The receptionist burst out laughing.<\/p>\n
The man did not.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m talking about,\u201d he said. \u201cNobody takes me seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, the doctor called him in.<\/p>\n
The man sat down and said, \u201cDoctor, this is ruining my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHow so?\u201d asked the doctor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, yesterday I stood in line at the bank for twenty minutes, and the cashier called the person behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat happens sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I went to a coffee shop, and the barista asked, \u2018Who ordered the latte?\u2019 while I was standing right in front of her.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe she was distracted.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I went home, and my wife said, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re back already?\u2019 I had been sitting on the sofa for three hours.\u201d<\/p>\n
The doctor nodded and made some notes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI see.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, doctor, you don\u2019t. That\u2019s the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
The doctor tried not to smile.<\/p>\n

He checked the man\u2019s eyes, ears, reflexes, and blood pressure. Everything seemed normal.<\/p>\n
Finally, the doctor said, \u201cPhysically, you\u2019re fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo why does everyone ignore me?\u201d<\/p>\n
The doctor leaned back.<\/p>\n
\u201cTell me about your daily routine.\u201d<\/p>\n
The man sighed. \u201cI wake up, complain about the weather, complain about work, complain about traffic, complain about prices, watch TV, complain about the news, then complain that nobody listens to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The doctor nodded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I found the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou did?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d said the doctor. \u201cYou\u2019re not invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The man looked relieved.<\/p>\n
