Your dog\u2019s barking, and it\u2019s keeping me awake,\u201d said an angry voice.<\/p>\n

John thanked the caller and politely asked his name and number before hanging up.<\/p>\n

The next morning at precisely 4:00 a.m., John called his neighbor back.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, Mr. Williams. I just called to say that I don\u2019t have a dog.\u201d

A young girl who was writing a paper for school came to her father and asked,<\/p>\n

\u201cDad, what is the difference between anger and exasperation?\u201d<\/p>\n

The father replied, \u201cIt is mostly a matter of degree. Let me show you what I mean.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that the father went to the telephone and dialed a number at random. To the man who answered the phone, he said, \u201cHello, is Melvin there?\u201d<\/p>\n

The man answered, \u201cThere is no one living here named Melvin. Why don\u2019t you learn to look up numbers before you dial?\u201d<\/p>\n

See,\u201d said the father to his daughter. \u201cThat man was not a bit happy with our call. He was probably very busy with something and we annoyed him. Now watch\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The father dialed the number again. \u201cHello, is Melvin there?\u201d asked the father.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow look here!\u201d came the heated reply. \u201cYou just called this number and I told you that there is no Melvin here. You\u2019ve got lot of guts calling again!\u201d The receiver slammed down hard.<\/p>\n

The father turned to his daughter and said, \u201cYou see, that was anger. Now I\u2019ll show you what exasperation means.\u201d<\/p>\n

He dialed the same number, and a violent voice roared, \u201cHello!\u201d<\/p>\n

The father calmly said, \u201cHello, this is Melvin! Have there been any calls for me?\u201d<\/p>\n
