Kirk Douglas has donated most of his fortune to charity, leaving nothing for his son Michael Douglas and daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones.<\/p>\n

After Douglas died, he left $50 million of his $60 million fortune to the Douglas Foundation, which aims to \u201chelp those who cannot otherwise help themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n

Some of the beneficiaries from his namesake foundation include St. Lawrence University, where they fund a scholarship for minority and underprivileged students and Westwood\u2019s Sinai Temple, which houses the Kirk and Anne Douglas Childhood Center.<\/p>\n

The foundation also funds Culver City\u2019s Kirk Douglas Theatre, a live performance venue, and Children\u2019s Hospital Los Angeles.

Just as Kirk\u2019s donation was revealed, Michael began campaigning in Quincy, Massachusetts, for Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

Michael praised the former New York City mayor, calling Bloomberg: \u201ctruly one of the best candidates we\u2019ve had running for office in 30 to 40 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

He shared with the audience: \u201cThank you so much for being here today, for supporting Mike. Let\u2019s go see what happens and let\u2019s get this done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Per the Boston Herald, Michael recalled telling his late father about his support for the American businessman. He told Kirk: \u201cI\u2019m all in, Dad. I\u2019m all in.\u201d

ichael made the announcement of his father\u2019s passing on his social media this past month.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cIt is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.\u201d

Michael, 75, continued: \u201cKirk\u2019s life was well-lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet.
\n\u201cLet me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad \u2013 I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the icon\u2019s death, his daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones, 50, who married Michael in 2000, paid tribute, saying:
\n\u201cI shall love you for the rest of my life. I miss you already. Sleep tight\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Douglas was not the only celebrity to give most of his money to charity.

While Joan Crawford left a small amount of money to various family members and friends, most of her wealth went to different charities.<\/p>\n

In 1977 when Crawford died, she left nothing to two of her four children, saying in her will, \u201cIt is my intention to make no provision herein for my son Christopher or my daughter Christina for reasons which are well known to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, she left most of her money to charitable organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America, the American Cancer Society, the USO of New York City, and many more.

James Brown was another celebrity whose family was blindsided when his will revealed that most of his fortune was to be donated to underprivileged children in Georgia and South Carolina.<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s will was contested for years after a series of family-related disputes and legal issues but some of his fortune went to charity to fund scholarships for needy children.<\/p>\n

Per the New York Times, \u201cThe bulk of the estate was to be given over to the I Feel Good Trust, which he set up to distribute scholarships for children from South Carolina, where he was born, and Georgia, where he lived for much of his life.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
