<\/p>\nWhile the chance of having quintuplets, triplets or twins is rare, the likelihood of having multiple multiples in one family is like hitting the baby jackpot.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what happened to Las Vegas parents Karen and Deon Derrico, who had back-to-back multiples, which they say is like \u201cgetting struck by lightning while getting struck by lightning.\u201d<\/p>\n
Karen, 43, and Deon Derrico always wanted a large family, but they certainly hadn\u2019t expected to have two single children, a set of quintuplets, triplets and two set of twins, all conceived without the use of fertility drugs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have 14 children, four sets of multiples,\u201d Deon, 52, says in the trailer for the reality show Doubling Down with the Derricos, which follows the hectic lives of the Las Vegas-based family. \u201cHow often do you see that?\u201d<\/p>\n
The couple share 14 children in total: Darian, 17, Derrick, 12, 11-year-old twins Dallas and Denver, 9-year-old quintuplets Deonee, Daician, Daiten, Deniko and Dariz, 5-year-old \u201ctriplins\u201d Diez and Dior, and 3-year-old triplets Dawsyn, De\u2019Aren and Dyver.<\/p>\n

Diez and Dior, whom the family often calls \u201ctriplins\u201d were actually part of a trio but their brother Carter was born 28 weeks into the pregnancy and doctors weren\u2019t able to save the premature baby. \u201cWe pay homage to him and his life by referring to the now twins as the triplins. We made up our own word, triplins.\u201d Deon explains.<\/p>\n
Every morning, Deon and Karen \u2013 both work from home \u2013 pack their patience in dealing with everything from potty training for the toddlers, to dating for their older kids.<\/p>\n
And getting their brood ready for the day is an activity that mom Karen compares to a sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like a ballet,\u201d says the mom. \u201cIt\u2019s chaotic. We have to constantly be on them: \u2018Have a seat, eat your breakfast, let\u2019s get everything together.\u2019 It\u2019s definitely a job when they get down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Revealing that it costs about $3,500 a month just feeding the kids, Deon \u2013 a real estate investor \u2013 breaks down some of the numbers. \u201cIn a week we go through 15 boxes of waffles, 20 rolls of toilet paper.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m not done\u2019
\nWhile the average person would find that one child is a lot to handle, the Derricos are still growing their large family and Karen says she\u2019s not done with having babies.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not done. The baby factory is still open, and at 43 years old, I\u2019m sticking to what I told Deon originally: I\u2019ll have as many children as God blesses me with,\u201d she writes in an essay published in Business Insider. \u201cPeople love to criticize big families, and mine is no different. As a Black family with 14 children, we\u2019re especially vulnerable to accusations that I\u2019m a bad mom. But I know I\u2019m not.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking of her relationship with Deon, whom she\u2019s been with since 2001, Karen continues, \u201cWhen we first met, we realized we both grew up in single-parent homes. We didn\u2019t want that for our children. We\u2019re on the same page raising this family, which makes all the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Deon explains that having four sets of multiples back-to-back is \u201clike getting struck by lightning while getting struck by lightning\u2026Many parents know with just one child, two children, it\u2019s a job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Karen adds, \u201cWe have our good days and our bad days. But there\u2019s always enough love.\u201d<\/p>\n
