Quaid\u2019s challenges are not unique.<\/p>\n
His struggles with addiction after a successful start to his career eventually led him to check himself into rehab or as he called it, \u201ccocaine school.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember going home and having kind of a white light experience that I saw myself either dead or in jail or losing everything I had, and I didn\u2019t want that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 69-year-old actor and musician explained how people who suffer with addiction are looking \u201cto fill a hole inside us,\u201d but once they break the cycle something needs to fill that hole, and it needs to be just as satisfying.<\/p>\n

He wrote a song for his mother \u201cto let her know I was okay, because I wasn\u2019t okay before then,\u201d and he began reading various religious texts including the Bible and Quran.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s when I started developing a personal relationship,\u201d he recalled. \u201cBefore that, I didn\u2019t have one, even though I grew up as a Christian.\u201d
