The Devastating Trap of Marital Diplomacy

An elderly married couple found themselves locked in a fierce, stubborn argument. He considered it a petty disagreement; she considered it an absolute declaration of war.

Neither of them was willing to budge, and hours passed in icy silence because neither would ever admit to being wrong. Finally, looking for a breakthrough, the wife turned to her husband with a serious expression and said, “Look, I am tired of fighting. I’ll tell you what—I will admit that I am wrong, but only if you immediately admit that I was right.”

The husband thought about it for a second, smiled at the seemingly fair compromise, and agreed. “Fine, it’s a deal.”

The wife took a deep, dramatic breath, looked him dead in the eye, and confessed, “I’m wrong.”

The husband grinned triumphantly, leaned back in his chair, and replied:

“You’re right.”
