Champion  Surfer Enjoying a Beautiful  Beach Day with Her Husband: Who Is She?

There is something incredibly grounding about watching people refuse to let life’s shifts pull them away from what makes them feel alive. Right now, professional  surfer Bethany Hamilton is giving us a beautiful, real-world masterclass in exactly that. At 36 weeks pregnant with her first child, a baby boy, the 25-year-old athlete isn’t letting the final stretch of her third trimester completely sideline her from the ocean. Instead of stepping away from the water, she is simply changing how she moves within it, adapting her deep-rooted connection to the sea to fit this massive new chapter with her husband, Adam Dirks.

Just a few days ago, the couple spent a quiet, sun-soaked Friday on the Kauai coast, soaking in those final, peaceful moments before parenthood changes their daily rhythm forever. They started the morning with a slow beach walk alongside their two dogs, the Hawaiian surf lapping at their feet. Bethany looked completely at home, her baby bump front and center, radiating the kind of calm happiness that only comes from being exactly where you belong. It was a beautiful reminder that staying active and connected to nature isn’t about hitting peak performance; sometimes, it’s just about showing up for yourself.

After their walk, they headed straight into the ocean for a swim. Watching Bethany walk out of the surf, goggles slung over her shoulder, you can see how fluidly she navigates change. Because she is so close to her due date, she has made the incredibly practical call to temporarily put away her short board. For a competitive athlete, stepping back from the core of your sport can feel like losing a piece of your identity, but Bethany handles it with absolute grace. She isn’t giving up her passion; she is just listening to her body and finding a different way to enjoy the water.

Of course, navigating major life adjustments is nothing new for her. We all remember how she first captured the world’s attention at just 13 years old, surviving a shark attack that took her left arm and nearly her life. The fact that she didn’t just survive, but went on to achieve her dream of becoming a professional surfer, has made her a household name. But what makes her journey into motherhood so compelling right now isn’t just her past grit. It’s the quiet, everyday resilience she shows by gracefully welcoming this new chapter without losing the girl who simply loves the ocean.

As she gets ready to welcome her son, Bethany’s story feels less like a celebrity news bite and more like a gentle permission slip for the rest of us. It reminds us that our passions don’t have to vanish when our lives expand or when our bodies demand a slower pace. Whether you are navigating parenthood, healing, or just a heavy season of transition, there is always a way to keep one foot in the things that feed your soul. Here’s to Bethany and Adam as they start this next great adventure, and to all of us finding our own ways to stay anchored through change.
