Marvel’s latest spin-off “Madame Web” experienced a less-than-stellar debut weekend, marking another significant misstep in the studio’s woke cinematic universe.

The Sony/Marvel co-production, which introduced audiences to a new female superhero, grossed a modest $15.3 million over its opening weekend, a figure that fell short of expectations for a project with an estimated budget of $80 million.

Critics and audiences alike have been quick to express their disappointment, with the film receiving a mere 13% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a score even lower than Sony’s previous effort, Morbius, which managed a 15% rating according to Deadline.

The critical panning was mirrored by a lukewarm reception from moviegoers, evidenced by a C+ CinemaScore rating, suggesting the film’s fortunes in the coming weeks is unlikely to improve. The film’s performance was a stark contrast to the weekend’s other major release, Bob Marley: One Love.
